2800 CS #2270363 was acquired as a slightly used car by W. Reid Pepin, who’d become CCA member #48. Pepin fitted it with triple Weber carburetors, and he enjoyed it for half a decade before selling it to club president Parker Spooner.
“When the 2800 CS came out, Parker lost his mind, and from the moment Reid got that car, Parker drooled over it incessantly,” says Michael Izor. “The day Reid had to give it up, Parker was there.” Spooner added a “BMW CCA” license plate, an Alpina steering wheel/shift knob and Weds wheels. In 1989, he became ill with cancer and decided to sell the car to Izor, who would own it for 20 years. “I could never get people to call it Izor’s coupe. It was Parker’s car,” notes Izor.
“After 20 years, I couldn’t give it the life it deserved. And when Lou Ann and Lonny Shirk came along, with the promise to do that, I had to let it go.”
After ensuring Izor that they’d care for it properly, they bought the CS in 2011. After a freshening at Vintage Sports & Restoration, the Shirks have driven the coupe from Pennsylvania to events all over the country.
In 2020, with some donations from various individuals, this car was donated to The Ultimate Driving Museum’s permanent collection.
This car is currently housed at Thunder Bunny Racing in Greenville, South Carolina.
