When BMW CCA member Mark Woolley died in 2018, he remembered the BMW CCA Foundation in his will, bequeathing his beloved 1990 E30 M3, “VilMMMa.” A resident of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Woolley worked primarily as a CAD trainer. He joined the CCA in 1988, and he purchased the M3 you see here in 1999. He drove it on the street and on the track, serving as an instructor for Tarheel Chapter driving schools. Woolley left the car relatively stock, save for upgraded suspension and yellow accents. Prior to his death, he purchased Motorsport embossed door handles and yellow seats, and those parts were installed by friends including Marc Schatell and Michael Washington before the car was delivered to the Foundation. “It’s what he wanted, so we put them in,” Washington says. “All the bright yellow additions represented his passion, flair, and energy for the life that the car brought to him, through the relationships he developed and created, the events and people he organized, and the collective futures influenced,” says Craig Harmon. “He was an ever-present and humorous participant in E30 M3 Special Interest Group events, and he will be remembered for his endless wit, his honored ‘curmudgeon’ status, and his welcoming, inclusive spirit.” An Ambassador for the BMW CCA Foundation, Woolley served an instructor for the Tire Rack Street Survival program while also supporting the Archive and Museum. His generous bequest of this E30 M3 continues that support, allowing those who visit the Museum to enjoy his beautiful M3. “He loved the Foundation and all it stood for, and he wanted a safe, sacred space to preserve VilMMMa for as long as possible.” The BMW CCA Foundation and The Ultimate Driving Museum thanks Mark Woolley, July 14, 1957-July 1, 2018, for his most generous bequest.
This car was on display at the Museum during the PASSION exhibition in 2019 and again during the BMW Z Cars exhibition in 2021.
This car is currently housed at Thunder Bunny Racing in Greenville, South Carolina.
