Inka (originally green)
The owner of Sandia BMW in Sante Fe, New Mexico had an Inka Orange 2002tii. He thought it would be fun to have a matching trailer to tow behind his car. This wasn’t going to be a hauling trailer, but a tailgate trailer.
They found a Green 1973 2002 that had extensive front end damage. This would be the perfect candidate to make the trailer. The car was cut in half at the B-pillars and the roof was also removed. In the trunk area, the gas tank was cut open and filled with a pickup truck bed liner. This is now the ice chest for your drinks. Where the back seat used to be, a special floor was put in and now has a Weber grille and a picnic basket attached. A special “trunk” panel was fabricated to close off this space. Two turn buckles help bend the rear corners down to conform with the original curve from the back window.
Finally, it was finished in a matching Inka orange finish to the tow vehicle. It was badged 2002t (t for trailer).
This trailer was donated to the Museum in 2009, one of the first vehicles for the Museum collection. It was originally on display at our Pelham Davis location, then at our current location up until 2017 when we started our exhibitions. We brought it back out for the ICON exhibition on the 2002.
This trailer is currently housed at Thunder Bunny Racing in Greenville, South Carolina.
