This arrived the day before our opening, but it was a great addition for the exhibition. Although it wasn’t the first year (1923) for an R 32 motorcycle, it is the first motorcycle model BMW built. We had it on display next to a 2023 R 18 100th Anniversary edition motorcycle. It was a great bookend display to show the beginning and current models. This was a real crowd pleaser in the exhibition.
The R32 presented by The Ultimate Driving Museum is one of the last R32’s made. As such, it has many upgrades that were not seen on the early production R32s. The history on this bike is known to the very first owner who worked in a machine shop in central Germany. Over the years it was sold from one laborer in the factory to another, being sold within that same company seven times. It was disassembled in 1972 to undergo its first restoration but was never finished. Purchased by the Nettesheim Museum in 2009 it was brought to a shop that specialized in these models and the restoration was finished.
