Following Nazi Germany’s defeat in 1945, the Eisenach plant fell within the Soviet zone of occupation. It was slated for demolition until plan manager Albert Siedler build several R35s from spare parts and offered them to the Red Army. Siedler’s efforts saved the plant, and the R35 remained in production at Eisenach for another decade. The bikes were badged as BMWs through 1951, when BMW won a trademark infringement lawsuit against the plant it no longer owned. Subsequent R 35s were identified as EMWs and upgraded with rear suspension and a few detail improvements. It is unclear the year of this motorcycle, but we do know it was produced in the Eisenach factory during the Soviet era.
