Timing can be everything, especially when it comes to buying a limited-production roadster.
When BMW launched the Z8, demand exceeded supply by a considerable margin. Dealers were charging a premium for new cars, and plenty of those who got Z8s resold them for yet another markup soon thereafter. Not everyone was willing to pay over sticker, however, and some—like the owner of the Z8 you see here—got lucky enough to get one at regular retail.
“It was right after 9/11, and a buyer had walked on his deposit because he didn’t want the car if the world was ending,” he said. “This car was beautiful, and if the world was going to end, I wanted to own it!”
Since the dealer got to keep the original buyer’s deposit, the car went to its original owner for sticker—about $50,000 dollars below the lowest price for a Z8 elsewhere. Since then, he has enjoyed this Black over Crema leather car immensely, using it as a weekend driver/fun car.
“It was described as the closest thing to a 1967 427 Corvette that was new, and it has been all the fun I expected,” he said. “It’s no less fun to drive than it was on the first day I got it.”
Neither is it any less beautiful, particularly in this stunning color combination!
